According to recent scientific research, this is where essential oils for tension headaches (Frankincense, Lavender, Vetiver, Clary Sage…) should be applied. This region is called the suboccipital triangle. It allows pure plant essences (essential oils) to penetrate straight into the brain and the blood vessels that are along the spine due to its proximity to arterial flow to the brain but also key neurological tissue.
To find this spot place the fingers on the sub occipital protuberance (little bump at the top of the spine on the back of the neck) then just below this grip the large muscle tissue and roll the fingers off to the side. This depression just behind and below the ear is the suboccipital triangle.
Let me know if you would like to try essential oils to help with your migraines or headaches.
